Town Accountant Job Opportunity

The Town of Oakham is seeking an experienced part-time Municipal Town Accountant. This position reports to a three member Select Board. The position is responsible for daily activities of the town’s accounting and budgeting function. The Town Accountant is responsible for the maintenance of all financial records, budgets, accounts payable, payroll, forecasting revenues and preparing the annual budget. The Town Accountant will also be responsible for the maintenance of the town’s accounting system and compliance with applicable federal, state and local bylaws as they relate to municipal finance. This position involves considerable interaction with departments heads, Finance Committee, boards and staff. The position establishes policies and procedures to ensure fiscal accountability for all departments, reconciliation of town financial records, preparation of various reports. The job requires a thorough knowledge of municipal accounting. A bachelor’s degree or a master craftsman level of trade knowledge in accounting, auditing, business administration, or a closely related field. Must hold a municipal certification as accountant or be able to obtain the designated certification within one year. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.  A minimum of three to five (3-5) years’ experience.
