History of the Live-In Program:
The program was founded by Michael Roberge and Chief Thomas McCaffrey in September of 2008. In the begining the students did not live in town during their first year. During the second year two students moved in to town and began giving the town emergency coverage. Both students that moved in town were both Certified Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians. The third year the program grew and now to this day four firefighters/EMT's live in town at Pine Acres Camping Resort. It is a requirment that all students within their first year of being a member of Oakham Fire Department must have Firefighter 1/2 certification and thier EMT-Basic level certification.
The students on Oakham Fire Department participate in trainings every week and also hold thier own trainings during the week. The trainings are held at Oakham Fire station and are led by thier Crew Chief who is the liason from the students to the Chief and the Officers. The Crew Chief's responsibilities are to make sure students know of up coming events with the departments and other fire department related activities. The Crew Chief is not a officer of the department but more of a mentor role for the new students that join the deparmtent. The first Crew Chief of the Anna Maria Crew was Michael Roberge class of 2011.
